You may have given up bacon baps in favour of avocados to make your breakfast more eco-friendly.
But, while the carbon created from the creamy green is still less than that of meat, flying those babies in from hotter climes takes an environmental toll.
While we're not suggesting you never go in for the fruit ever again, should you wish to cut back, here's some alternatives to your favourite ways of eating them.
Taco night! Instead of making guacamole with avocado, try pulsing spears of asparagus into a puree, and combine with coriander, greek yoghurt, lime juice and fresh chilli. Same texture, same colour, no one will guess.
2. Butter beans
Get the same richness you'd get from an avocado on toast, but with a smaller carbon footprint. Mash half a in of drained butter beans with coriander, lime, salt, and a few slithers of raw red onion.
Rather than dipping your nachos into an avocado and sour cream dip, sprinkle paprika and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil into a large bowl of hummus.
4. Sweet potato
Toast slices of sweet potato (nice and thin, so they cook through) and sprinkle with nutty goodness to get your toast fix, without the avo spread.
Breakfast to impress time – fry chopped Portabellos with lemon zest, garlic, sliced white onion, thyme and black pepper before layering onto sourdough.
If you're devoted to the texture of whizzed avocado in your morning smoothie, try chucking in a handful of cashew nuts, for the same vibe.
