Veganism is no longer fringe. Last year it was found that the number of people forgoing animal products in Britain has increased by more than 360 per cent over the last 10 years.
To fight climate change, it's also one of the best things we can do. Research published in 2016 by the University of Oxford shows that "a global switch to diets that rely less on meat and more on fruit and vegetables could save up to 8 million lives by 2050" and "reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two thirds."
The face of plant-based is changing, too – it's not all spiralized carrots with mushed-up cashews anymore. Meriel Armitage, founder and director of Club Mexicana, London's vegan Mexican street food joint says: "From beer-battered to-fish to carne asada made with seitan, our food is all about punchy flavours and textures that hold their own."
Here's the most deliciously indulgent vegan food being served up around the country.
Fed By Water, London
A cafe-decorated space with Italian comfort food, Fed By Water leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to the staple carb-stuffed expectation of pizza and pasta. The vegan lasagne is beyond delicious, with just as much beautifully flavoursome and stodgy charm as the carnivore alternative. Their desserts are also not to be overlooked, most notably the Tiramisex, a hilarious yet delicious take on the classic.

Temple of Seitan, London
Starting out as a market stall on Brick Lane, the notoriety that vegan fried chicken garnered soon led to the opening of their own shop in Hackney, London.
